About

Pink Velvet Burlesque is a dynamic group of performers who bring a fresh fun spin to the world of burlesque with their eclectic professional performance backgrounds. The show has elements of both neo and traditional burlesque, drag, comedy, singing, dancing, side show, and performance art in a unique blend to keep the audience guessing as to what excitement may come next! With their larger than life host drag artist Rouge Fatale holding the reins she keeps the laughs coming and encourages audience participation; sometimes to the point of plucking lucky (unlucky?) members from their seats to become part of the show!  This is not your typical bump and grind show by any means!  No political agenda’s just tons of laughs and good times to be had for all!

History

Pink Velvet Burlesque was founded by burlesque performer Miss C (aka Cadence Macmichael) in late 2005, after the Halifax Burlesque Society ended, with their first show in April 2006 at the Evolution bar (located in Halifax’s gay village). The original troupe was formed with a combination of ex Halifax Burlesque Society members as well as a few new comers to the scene and performers from the local drag scene which made for a unique mix of acts.

Since their inception Pink Velvet Burlesque has put on a wide variety of shows from small cabarets to sold out venues of over 1,000 attendees. In addition to shows produced by the troupe, they have also worked with many other groups around the Halifax area and have been involved in shows in Toronto, Montreal, and Boston.  It may also be noted that Pink Velvet Burlesque has been involved with many charity functions and fundraisers over the years including but not limited to Titz N’ Glitz, AIDS Walk For Life, AIDS Coalition of Nova Scotia, Ladies In Red, Brain Child, Stepping Stone, Haliwood Pre Oscar Party for Children’s Help Line, Halifax Pride fundraisers, Mirror Image, and Halifax Sexual Health Center.

Performers

Pink Velvet Burlesque prides itself in it’s quality professional shows  and many of their performers have professional/semi professional backgrounds as dancers, singers, and performance artists outside of the troupe.  The troupe boasts many of Halifax’s “Best Of Awards” from the Coast including Rouge Fatale as winner of “Best Drag” for 2008-2011, Oliver Hugh “Best Drag” runner up 2009, Monique Ryan “Best Dancer” 2008, and many of their performers have won numerous  other awards for acting , comedy, and performance art over the last number of years.
